(April, 2015) – Golden Corral Franchisee Eric Holm has been named winner of a 2015 Most Valuable Performer (MVP) Award by Multi-Unit Franchisee Magazine. Holm was chosen for the Noble Cause Award for his passionate, unwavering support for those in need and his dedication to the Golden Corral brand.
For 23 consecutive years, Holm has hosted the “Helpings from the Heart” event at a Salvation Army in Orlando, Fla. by providing free meals to deserving residents on Thanksgiving Day. In 2014, Holm and his staff prepared more than 25,000 meals for local residents who may not have been able to afford a full Thanksgiving dinner. More than 1,000 volunteers helped serve traditional Thanksgiving meals consisting of turkey, ham, mashed potatoes, green beans and stuffing at a Salvation Army gymnasium. The meals were made available for pickup or were delivered to area nursing homes, shut-ins and churches.
Holm founded “Helpings from the Heart” as a way to give back to the community and thank The Salvation Army, which provided a Thanksgiving meal to the Holm family when he was a child. Holm experienced the need for help firsthand, growing up in a single-parent family and working to help support his mother as a busboy in a restaurant where she was a waitress. Since starting the Helpings from the Heart event in 1992, Holm and his staff have served Thanksgiving meals to an estimated 400,000 people.
“I am honored to win the Noble Cause Award and I want to thank Multi-Unit Franchisee Magazine,” Holm said. “I have been fortunate to be able to provide a Thanksgiving meal for others and return the favor that I was given years ago as a child. We have developed a great tradition and look forward to continuing to help those in need in the coming years.”
Holm owns and operates 32 Golden Corral restaurants in Florida and Georgia. He opened his first Golden Corral in 1996 and has been named the company’s Franchisee Owner of the Year eight times. Holm also serves on the National Advisory Board for the Salvation Army.
Multi-Unit Franchisee Magazine annually selects MVP winners across 10 different categories. The awards honor top franchisees who have demonstrated outstanding performance in both their organizations and their brands.
Holm will attend the Multi-Unit Franchising Conference, April 8-10 at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas. He will participate in several of the conference’s events and formally accept his award at a MVP Awards Presentation breakfast on April 9.
